About the Artist Leo Zav is a multidisciplinary artist and maker whose work grows from curiosity, instinct, and a deep respect for natural materials. Working with wood, metal, reclaimed objects, and organic forms, he creates sculpture, functional art, and one-of-a-kind pieces that carry both physical presence and personal meaning. His process often begins with a material that already has a story. A weathered root, a section of timber, a discarded object, or an unusual natural shape may suggest what it wants to become. Rather than forcing the material into a predetermined design, Leo allows its grain, scars, imperfections, and character to guide the work. This philosophy is reflected in **A Portrait of Inner Balance**, a symbolic self-portrait in which the human profile contains a series of interlocking gears. Each gear represents a different force within the artist: thought, experience, discipline, creativity, responsibility, and emotion. The heart among them forms the emotional core, expressing the belief that intellect and feeling are not separate, but essential parts of the same inner mechanism. Balance is created when each element is given its proper place and time. That same search for balance extends beyond the workshop. Leo finds inspiration and grounding in gardening, where working the soil teaches patience, attentiveness, and respect for the quiet labor behind all growth. The simple act of placing his hands into the earth becomes a reminder that meaningful work takes time, care, and trust in the process. His love of culinary art completes that connection. From planting and tending to harvesting and preparing food, the journey from garden to plate becomes a full creative experience, linking nature, craftsmanship, nourishment, and gratitude. The greatest reward comes from welcoming friends to the table and sharing food grown by his own hands, transforming months of effort into moments of warmth, friendship, and joy. These same values carry through Leo’s art. Some pieces explore stability, memory, time, skepticism, and the need for an inner anchor. Others are practical, playful, or quietly humorous. What connects them is the belief that ordinary materials can be transformed without losing the history that made them unique. Leo Zav Art is not built around repetition or mass production. Every object is individually imagined and made by hand, resulting in work that feels personal, grounded, and unmistakably its own.
